If you're wondering whether GTA 6 will be available on a physical disc, the answer is no.
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch as a Code in Box title, meaning retail copies will include a download code instead of a playable Blu-ray disc. This applies to both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions available at launch.
Is GTA 6 Getting a Physical Disc Edition?
No. There will be no physical Blu-ray disc version of GTA 6 at launch. While players can still purchase a boxed retail copy from stores, the package will contain a digital download code rather than the game on disc.
For collectors, this means you can still own a physical case, but you'll need to download the game digitally to play.
Why Isn't GTA 6 Releasing on Disc?

The official GTA 6 pre-load date is 12 November 2026. From this date, players who have pre-ordered the game can download it to their PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S before launch. Although the game can be installed early, GTA 6 will not be playable until its official release date on 19 November 2026, when Rockstar Games unlocks access worldwide.
Will GTA 6 Release Earlier in New Zealand?
Many players are wondering whether New Zealand will get to play GTA 6 earlier due to its time zone. At this stage, Rockstar Games has not confirmed the official global release time. If GTA 6 launches at midnight local time, New Zealand players will be among the first in the world to start playing. However, if Rockstar chooses a simultaneous worldwide launch, all players will gain access at the same moment, regardless of their location.
