Grand Theft Auto VI fans were expecting pre-orders to open on 18 May, based on an email from US retailer Best Buy. The email reportedly mentioned a 5% affiliate commission on GTA VI pre-orders between 18-21 May, which was later verified by Insider Gaming.

However, no pre-orders were launched on 18 May 2026, confirming the speculation was incorrect. A Best Buy employee later stated the listing was caused by an internal error.

Despite this, expectations remain that GTA VI pre-orders are still imminent, although the timing has shifted beyond initial predictions.

Storefront Activity and Platform Clues

Recent activity across major console storefronts has fuelled further speculation around GTA VI.

• The PlayStation Store briefly updated the GTA VI listing
• A “Free Delivery” label appeared on the game page preview
• New filters such as “Editions,” “Sort By,” and “Filter By” were added but remain inactive

These changes suggest Rockstar Games may be preparing multiple editions of GTA VI.

On Xbox, the GTA VI listing has reportedly disappeared and reappeared multiple times, indicating backend store updates are ongoing.

Insiders have also suggested Rockstar could release up to six versions of the game, including standard editions, a collector’s edition, and PlayStation 5 console bundles.

Take-Two Earnings Call and Marketing Timeline

During Take-Two Interactive’s earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that GTA VI marketing will begin in summer 2026, but not immediately.

He noted that it will likely still be “a few weeks” before summer officially begins in the US, placing major marketing activity around late June 2026 or later.

This makes it unlikely that GTA VI will appear at early June gaming events such as:

• PlayStation State of Play (2 June)
• Summer Game Fest (5 June)
• Xbox Showcase (7 June)
